There truly is only one thing that you, as an actor needing a professional headshot really needs to convey with your headshots. If you go into your shoot with this in mind, you can knock your shoot out of the park. If your photographer doesn’t realize that this one thing is your goal, you need to do one thing: WALK AWAY. That one thing is MARKETABILITY. The goal of your headshot isn’t to take the prettiest picture in the world. The goal is to give your agent (if you have one) something he or she can sell. If you keep this and mind and provide them with the tools they need to get your foot into a casting directors door, you’ve won half the battle. If you don’t have an agent, take headshots that display a marketable range that fits you. Remember, you are an entrepreneur and your business is YOU so give yourself the best opportunity of getting a phone call by marketing yourself. How many times have you gotten a crappy business card from someone wanting your business? Did you give that person a call? Probably not. Your headshot is your one big ol’ business card so if you present a marketable one, you have a much better chance of having your phone ring with people showing interest in you.
