A very interesting Sunday…….

I was hanging out with some very close friends of mine, Nikki and Dave Jodat, about a month or so ago and got the mother-lode of awesome news dropped on me.  Let me first begin with the backstory.  Every Sunday, we have a get together that we have dubbed Triple D. Triple D stands for dinner, drinks and dominoes (I’m a domino addict and Nikki and Dave have picked up the game as well).  About two months ago, one of the D’s was failing to make a Sunday appearance at what was supposed to be Triple D for Nikki.  Dinner happened as planned, and we actually switch between dominoes and movies, so sometimes the third D stands for dramatic cinematics, which also happened as planned.  There was, however, a lack of tasty alcoholic beverages.  Of course, I was completely oblivious to this.  About a month or so ago, I get a phone call from Nikki asking me to come over because they had some ideas for a potential photo shoot to run by me.  Conveniently, they live right across the street from me so I headed on over.  After a few minutes of catching up, Dave hands me a picture and says “We were thinking of something like this for the photo shoot…..”.  I look a the picture and quickly realize that I’m looking at an ultrasound image.  As I begin to connect the dots in my head, I look up with wide eyes and yell, “SHUT UP!!!!”. Nikki and Dave both start cracking up.  Congrats were certainly in order as we excitedly chatted about the bun in the oven.  They have been trying to get pregnant for a while now so I was, and still am, extremely happy for the both of them.

The thing is, the excitement didn’t end there.  Turns out that another couple, Nikki’s cousin Corrine and Dave’s close friend, Dan are also expecting (they’re on little one #2).  The kicker is, Nikki and Corinne have the EXACT same due date of December 2nd.  With the excitement of all the buns in all the ovens around here, it was only fitting that they do a joint announcement.  I was lucky enough to be able to shoot the pictures for that announcement.  Dan and Corrine’s son Jason, who is absolutely adorable, made a couple of the shots way more fun than we anticipated.  So, without further ado, I give you Nikki, Dave, Dan, and Corrine’s baby announcement pictures!

Brett and Chawna’s Wedding

On May 21, I had the pleasure of attending the wedding of Chawna Schroeder and Brett Beaupre.  The wedding was held in Door County, Wisconsin.  The weather was pretty sketchy all weekend but the rain was nice enough to hold off during the important parts.  The wedding ceremony was at Ellison Bay Bluff in Fish Creek and was absolutely beautiful.  The reception was held inside of a barn located on the property where we stayed for the weekend.  Sometimes, when you hear that a reception was held in a barn, that tends to draw a confused look, but believe me when I say that the vision that Chawna had for this reception was pulled off marvelously!!!  I was not the official photographer for this event, but I did manage to grab some shots of the groomsmen receiving their gifts, the beautiful couple, and the barn after being set up for the reception. There was a pleasant surprise sitting behind the barn in the form of a 1952 Chevy pickup.  I couldn’t help but grab a few shots of that as well!

You’ll notice a fish theme developing throughout the event.  Brett is an avid musky fisherman.  He enjoys it so much that he chose a weekend of musky fishing for his bachelor party.  I was lucky enough to be able to attend even though the only thing I caught was a light case of sunburn.  This couple was very fun to photograph as they are very photogenic so they could just be themselves in front of the camera.  I would like to congratulate Chawna and Brett and wish them nothing but happiness as they begin this chapter of their life together.

Girls on the Run 5k

On June 8th, I had the privilege of shooting the Girls on the Run Spring 5k event.  Girls on the Run is a transformational, physical activity based, positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. Life skills are taught through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5k running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness.

The event was held at Greenfield Park on a perfectly cool Saturday morning.  I walked into the event not really sure what to expect but after spending about 15 minutes just walking the grounds and seeing how pumped the participants were and how much this meant to them, I really began to feel inspired myself and that’s when I got a surprise of my own.  I was walking to the main area when all of a sudden, I heard “Daddy!!!!!” and an energetic, little 10 year old ran up to me and wrapped her arms around me.  My daughter, Brianna, was there and was running in the event.  When looking at the pictures below, she’s the cutie pie with the aviator sunglasses on and a smile that could warm the coldest room.  Seeing her put me in an even better mood so I began snapping away.  As I walked around watching and listening, I could really sense the camaraderie and support that all the participants had for one another.  The race itself was nothing short of inspirational.  Watching the sense of accomplishment on the participants’ faces was truly heart warming.  I couldn’t help but be proud for each and every runner in that event.

When the event was over and I began the walk to the parking lot, I was amazed at how much of a blast I had shooting this event.  It was WAY more fun than I ever expected.  I’ve already volunteered to shoot the fall 5k in November.  For more information on Girls on the Run, click here.  Take a look at the images below to get an idea of what can be witnessed at this amazing event.  The entire gallery can be viewed here.  Thanks for checking out this weeks blog post and I hope you’ll stop by again next week!

This is me……

Image

Hello and welcome to my blog!  My name is Lekan Oyefeso and I am the owner/photographer of MTM Photography.  I specialize in wedding and portrait photography.  I’ve wanted to start a blog pertaining to photography for a while now so I decided to finally get off my butt and get it done!  This will be my weekly forum to tell the stories of the people I photograph, talk about the different trials and tribulations of the photography business, and cool photography related topics I come across.  People who know me on a personal level know that I’m a pretty laid back guy that likes to interact with people, so I want this to be more of a dialogue than me just running off at the mouth…..well……fingers.  Feel free to comment on the things I post or email me a response.

If you asked me 10 years ago if I thought that I’d be a photographer trying to run a business in my mid-thirties, I would’ve told you that you were nuts.  I played around with the occasional film camera here and there when I was younger, but that was nothing even remotely close to being serious. I picked up a DSLR about 6 years ago when a buddy and I decided to get into photography as a hobby.  We both enjoyed going to air shows (I still do) and thought that it would be cool to start shooting them.  As I did more and more shooting, I began to get more interested in photographing people and trying to getting better at it.  The next thing I knew, the hobby became an addiction!  This was about the same time that I came to the realization that I’d like to try to own my own business and hopefully, one day, stop working to fulfill someone else’s dreams and instead work to fulfill my own.  That brings me to the present.  So far, I’ve learned a LOT about starting and running a business but what I’ve learned has only begun to scratch the surface.  So, come with me on this journey and we can all learn some cool stuff along the way!  Thanks for stopping by!  I hope you’ll come back next week!
